Dry Needling for Midlothian, VA

What is Dry Needling?

A drug-free pain management solution

Is that deep knot sticking around? Your muscles can hold tension, creating knots that prevent you from enjoying everyday life. Dry needling, a science-backed alternative for pain relief and mobility, can help get rid of your persistent pain.

This drug-free pain management method uses “dry” needles—inserted without medication or injection—to get deep into muscles and connective tissue. Once the needles penetrate the tissue, your trigger points can be deactivated.

When your trigger points are activated, you’re left with a tight knot that’s painful and can reduce your range of motion.

Any athlete or ailing adult suffering from knots and chronic pain can use dry needling to get the relief they’ve been searching for. No matter your level of discomfort, this pain management method can help you regain comfort and mobility.

Dr. Frank Pugh is a certified healthcare professionals who provides dry-needling services to patients in Midlothian—helping them recover and thrive.

Stop pain from affecting you any longer and get back to enjoying life.

What Are Trigger Points?

Trigger points, or knots, are taut bands of skeletal muscle within larger groups of muscle. Acute or repetitive trauma puts stress on muscle fibers over time—resulting in troubling trigger points.

The knot’s epicenter can also affect surrounding muscles as trigger points often radiate pain signals outwardly. As your muscles contract from the pain, you may also experience a decreased range of motion.

Is Acupuncture the Same as Dry Needling?

Dry needling is also known as trigger point needling or intramuscular manual therapy, however, dry needling is not acupuncture.

While they both involve needles, dry needling focuses on the musculoskeletal and nervous systems while acupuncture is aimed at balancing the flow of energy in the human body.

Benefits of Dry Needling

Tired of trying to treat lasting pain with no resolve? Discomfort in any capacity affects our daily lives, especially if you’ve been struggling with chronic pain for a while now. Relieving the pain becomes not just beneficial, but also necessary for a better quality of life.

Dry needling gets deep into those hard-to-reach muscles that other forms of pain management, such as foam rollers, can’t fully release. This drug-free alternative method targets discomfort at the source and handles indirect pain in surrounding muscles.

Find the relief you’ve been searching for with a pain management and mobility solution that is:

  • Researched and safe
  • Involves minimal discomfort
  • Relieves pain efficiently
  • Improves mobility
  • Reduces tightness
  • Increases blood flow
  • Drug-free

Backed By Science and Research

Dry needling was derived from the work of Dr. Janet Travell and Dr. David Simons in the 1940s after finding that certain muscles refer pain to nearby areas of the body. This is where trigger points come into play as they refer to pain when touched or bothered unless released—similar to how sciatica pain can radiate down your leg when the source is near your lower back.

Modern-day dry needling is backed by medical research showing its effectiveness.

Dr. Pugh and his staff are great! They have always been amazing to work with and easy to get ahold of with questions or concerns. Dr. Pugh has been great at not only adjusting for my back pain, but has given me tips to help keep lasting results with things I can do at home to help. This last session I tried the red light bed which was so relaxing. The only way I can explain it is feeling like you are sinking into your body. I would definitely recommend ICAC!

While visiting in the Chesterfield area, I felt the need for Chiropractic care. I was fortunate to contact Dr. Pugh’s office and they were able to work me in right away for treatment. Dr. Pugh and his staff were professional and caring. During my first visit I was introduced to the NovaTHOR Red Light Bed. After my first session, I actually felt more flexibility in my joints and my sleep seemed more restful. They worked with my schedule the next day so I could have a second session on my way out of town. Will definitely schedule more appointments on my next trip to the area.

Ive been seeing Dr. Pugh for years and he is hands down the best chiropractor I've ever had. I love that he combines acupuncture with chiropractic which I have not seen anywhere else and the combination offers me more pain relief than Ive ever gotten from a pill. He is always kind and caring and spends time listening to issues and making recommendations. I've also brought my husband into the practice. He suffers from serious lower back pain where his back frequently goes out and he can't move for a few days. He was experiencing episodes every 6 months or so and since seeing Dr pugh he hasn't had an issue in 2 years. Most recently, Dr Pugh has introduced us to red light therapy. It offers a total body experience and the feeling I had of peace and relaxation after just one session was mind blowing. 5 stars is not enough to illustrate the awesomeness of this practice! If your not seeing Dr Pugh your really missing out on an opportunity to improve your quality of life. I highly recommend!!!

I have been with Dr Pugh for more than 10 years now. He is down to earth and very personable. He doesn’t try to make you sign any long term contracts or treatment plans like other chiropractors try to do. He is honest and will set up a treatment designed to help you get better. I still him once a month for maintenance.

Dr. Pugh and staff have created a warm and welcoming environment. I have been going to Dr. Pugh for several years now and each visit is just as great as the last. He always takes time for any questions or concerns I may have and makes sure I leave feeling better than when I walked in.
